The Ivy Center of Nashville

Rental and Maintenance of The Ivy Center of Nashville: Beginning, in the early forties and continuing through the sixties, the Chapter made plans for building a House. Under the persistent leadership of Miss Erma Parker, members donated money through filling individual gleaners and coin banks, and designating a percentage of proceeds from all fund-raising projects to the Chapter House Fund. During this period, the first legacy gift of one thousand, ($1,000) was left by Dr. Alma Watkins to the House Fund. Since that time, numerous members are recognized on the Wall of Honor for contributions ranging from $1,000 to $20,000.

A part of that dream became a reality in 1992 with the purchase of 2.7 acres of land located on Ashland City Highway. On September 6, 1997, ground was broken for the project. A beautiful Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on November 15, 1998 and through a vigorous campaign, where an assessed amount from each member, and a Wall of Honor project including names of members and friends who contributed from $1,000 to $20,000, the goal was reached. Sorors contributed a majority of the money over a five year period, including $30,000 contributed between September and October of 2003. The mortgage was retired and burned at a joyous Mortgage Retirement Ceremony on Sunday, November 9, 2003.

Today, our more than 200 members use our Chapter House for our monthly meetings where we plan and implement community service projects. In addition, the building is also used by the community as a place to host their social activities and special events. In 2013, the property at 4348 Ashland City Highway, directly adjacent to The Ivy Center of Nashville, was purchased. This acquisition will provide needed space for the expansion of current programs and additional programs in keeping with our purpose “to render service to all mankind”.
